There are a
multitude of layout tools on the market, and I'd bet my shirt that
most woodworkers wouldn't mind owning all of them. The Czeck
Edge Ruler Stop is no exception. It's a versatile accessory
that enables you to use any ruler (or piece of wood for that matter)
up to 1-1/4" wide to take repeatable, accurate measurements.
The Ruler Stop is a finely machined tool made of aircraft grade
aluminum (essentially an aluminum alloy able to withstand heat
and fracturing while remaining very light weight). The two guide
rods are nicely polished, and the threaded rod is stainless steel.
The tightening knob is made of brass. At 1/2" x 1" x 3-3/4" it's
small enough to fit easily into a shirt, pants or apron pocket.

The head is useful as a quick set-up block for 1/2" and 1" measurements. Insert a ruler (up to 1-1/4" wide)into the jaws and you have a depth/height/edge layout gauge. The slanted edges on the jaws securely hold the ruler firmly in place and perfectly square to the side of the body, enabling you to use it as a try square. Insert a pin into one end of a wooden stick, hold or clamp a pencil against the edge of the Ruler Stop, and you have an arc/circle gauge. Not least, it's a great tool to tinker with while you puzzle out design or construction problems. Woodworkers are a very ingenious lot, and no doubt will come up with a lot of different ways to use the Ruler Stop.

The Ruler Stop costs about the same as a six pack and a pizza; but it's by far a sweeter tasting deal. The beer and pizza will be long gone and forgotten, while you'll be enjoying the Ruler Stop for years to come.
