Mississauga, ON. January 2012 - FEIN, the inventor of the
power tool, launches the world's first hand-held core
drilling system for metal. It combines the benefits of a
powerful hand drill with those of a carbide drill bit. The
hand-held FEIN KBH 25 core drilling system
enables easy, fast and convenient drilling of holes up to 25
mm diameter in metals up to 20 mm in thickness. It allows
metalworking companies to work on all common metals, on
curved, painted and uneven surfaces as well as hard-to-reach
places.
Drilling - reinvented
The FEIN KBH 25 drilling system is designed around the
requirements of hand-held core drilling: It combines a
powerful hand drill with special carbide core bits. The
drilling technology was developed by FEIN and a patent is
pending. The new process avoids unnecessary material
machining, thus considerably reducing the effort required.
The HSS pilot bit only drills as long as necessary and
disengages as soon as the core bit meets the material. So
the entire feed pressure can be applied to the core
drilling. At material breakthrough, a spring pushes the
pilot bit forward, and ejects the core.
The carbide core bit is optimized for long service life with
special cutting geometry and a cut width of only 2.8 mm,
ensuring rapid work progress combined with reduced feed
pressure. In addition, FEIN offers a carbide core bit line
with Titanium Aluminum Nitride surface coating. These are
extremely heat resistant and have excellent glide
properties. That gives them a longer service life and 20%
faster work progress than uncoated carbide core bits.
Over 115 years of experience with user-oriented
drilling systems
As the inventor of the world's first electric hand drill,
FEIN has over 115 years of experience in the development of
application solutions in the drilling field. With the FEIN
KBH 25 metal core drilling system, this long-established
company responds to the requirements of users: they need an
all-purpose, handy yet powerful core drilling tool for
different materials and working situations. Until now, metal
workers had the choice of hole saws or core drilling units
with a magnetic base for large hole diameters.
Hole saws are mounted in the chuck of a normal power drill.
They are easy to use but require considerable force and can
only be used for material thicknesses up to eight mm.
Stationary core drilling units are distinguished by their
very large capacity. On the other hand, with a weight of at
least ten kg, they are relatively unwieldy and can only be
used on magnetic metals of at least ten mm thickness. Work
with the FEIN KBH 25 is up to three times faster compared
with normal hole saws and as much as five times faster than
conventional twist drills.
Quality and convenience for craftsmen
The FEIN KBH 25 operates at the optimum speed for carbide
drilling tools. The tacho electronics maintain a constant
speed and enable even, speedy work progress, even under
heavy load. The metal core drilling system is manufactured
in Germany, is particularly robustly built and is
distinguished by a long service life. A 1,200 Watt
high-performance motor provides the necessary power. The
metal gear head and glass-fiber reinforced, distortion-free
barrel-type motor housing are able to handle extreme loads.
Rotating machine components are securely positioned and
ensure precise drilling. Worker safety was also a focus of
the new development: The core drilling system is equipped
with a torque slip clutch. This immediately disconnects the
drive shaft if the core bit jams. The FEIN QuickIN PLUS tool
mount provides fast, tool-free accessory changes.
